Drove from California to Ohio in a 2-car caravan in 4 days using these radios. The range was fine for this purpose. Even when we were separated by over a mile of LA traffic, we were still in communication.
Only things that would need improvement are bigger battery capacity (zonked out after 8 hours of sporadic use), shorter charging times (on the charger after ru down for 12 hours and still wasn't at fully charged), being able to charge and talk at the same time (plugging in usb charger turns unit off), and auto scanning of weather channels (would have been great to know we were going to drive into a massive storm. Even with emergency alert on, I still had to find the right weather channel for the area manually. Not so convenient when driving in adverse weather.) Otherwise, this set is great and well worth it.

I just got these radios for a blowout bargain on Amazon! The package came 5 days earlier than the origanal delivery date! I walked a long way up a hill with many slopes and got a signal as clear as I was talking to the person! The LED flashlight is an excellent feature along with the NOAA weather radio! It also came with a free car charger in the box! It also comes with a nice desktop charger that works very well. The backlighted screen is amazing! The 121 privacy codes are great for not getting interferance by annoying other people. There is a great hands free feature so you do not even have to push the talk button! There are many call tones that you can pick from. Overall I would recommend this Motorola Talkabout Em1000r radio over any other radio! It is the best quality and signal you can get!

I bought these radios to be used while on a cruise. I haven't been on the ship yet, going in a few more weeks. However, I have had one person talk to me while I've driven so far about 1 mile away before we start loosing contact. I'm very happy with the product from what little I have used it thus far.

I was moving across the state, and my family decided it was best to use a convoy of our cars and the moving truck in case one of the vehicles broke down. We had three of these walkie talkies in use the whole 6 hour trip, and the batteries were only 50% depleted. They worked great, never had a problem receiving transmissions, and only took me one minute to teach my parents how to use. It made the move much easier.
