It works!! It was the only fire starting tool I had to use during high desert winds; worked like a champ. The harder you scrape, the bigger the spark.

5 out of 5 stars make shure to buy from Jezebra.com   December 20, 2007

Hey all, the swedish firesteel is a great product for those interested in survival or bushcraft. I own one personally, and see it as a great asset to my survival kit. All that you truly need in "the bush" is this, a knife, and some basic survival skills that you can learn through courses, or on the web. You can use it on many different tinders, both natural and artificial, because of the intense heat generated by the sparks. I also own a "spark-lite" which is a good sparker, but only works well with artificial tinders such as dryer lint, toilet paper, ect... I suggest that you buy this item no matter if you want it for survival purposes or otherwise, either way, it is a great purchase.

Make shure that you order from Jazebrz.com, I ordered from them and it was delivered in five days. It actually would have been four days, but they acidentally sent me Mayadust instead, I sent them only one e-mail explaining the situation, and they overnighted it that day at no extra charge, They also let me keep the Mayadust, which works great.

5 out of 5 stars Great product!   March 16, 2009

I was so pleased with the Scout Model (3,000 strikes) I bought the Army Model (12,000 strikes). The differences between the two models are the size of the striker and thickness of the rod. The handle is the same size and comfortably fits between your thumb and forefinger during use. If I had to choose one over the other it would be the Army Model. Both sizes store the same, so why not have a longer lasting fire starter? The small price increase is worth it.

5 out of 5 stars One RANGERS veiw on the S. Firesteel   August 22, 2009

Well,.. First of all let me tell you that I have recently returned to civilian life after being in the USARMY for 5 yrs. I was pinned with the well known " RANGER TAB " and have went out on several missions where my team and I could have use of some really nice gadgets like the Firesteel. Only untill you have to go without nothing does it make you prepare more so for the next time so you dont have to " GO without". Having nothing really makes you appriciate the little things that you've left behind. And in the woods, desert,Jungle, or any where else you might find yourself without the lux. of the modern world there is definately nothing that will lift your moral more than a nice fire. I remember countless times when I would sit staring at a small fire and feel the stress of the day just kinda go away. I would feel some of my lost hope come back to my sences and motivate me to keep pushing on to the objective.

Enough of history,( I could go on and on! haha) The Swedish Firesteel. I have always wondered if these little gagets would work,.. I have started fire in Training with an accual flint stone. However those can be almost impossible to find. And I am capable of making fire in every possible way. Although I do have to say I think there is nothing better than a good ol' Bic lighter (2). But lets face it,.. the bic lighter CAN be busted and you are stuck trying to make a fire with your boot lace and some twigs sweatin ur ass off for 30-45 mins! NO THANKS! Well as I search for products to make what I plan on selling, a ruck sack made for survial. I ran accross this product,.. well the curiosity got the better of me and I ordered 2, one for me and one for my brother who is also a survival freak. I recieved the FireSteel and had to try it out imediatly. I went outside and gathered up a handfull of dry material, and sat down. After 4 strikes the material was glowing red and yellow. I couldnt believe how easy it was!

Needless to say, this FireSteel will permantly be a addition to my attire every
single day. I have to say I cant beleive that it worked so damn well. But anyways I've written enough. E-mail me with any questions. I am considered a survival expert and would love to hear from like minded people. [....]

5 out of 5 stars Good seller, good product.   August 23, 2007

Good Seller with fast delivery.
The flint is a good product. It fits nicely in your hand and the striking plate is attached with a rope that allows about 6 inches of play for striking the flint (which is plenty). The key to getting a fire started is proper tinder selection. Wood shavings, dried grass, newspaper are ok for kindling but will just frustrate you for catching and holding a spark. You'll need dried grass plumes, cat tails,(very fine), pine sap, and so on to effectively catch and ignite a good tinder bundle. If you just want something that lights a pile of grass or a wad of paper - buy a lighter or matches.
